College Football Preview Week Seven

It's week seven of the college football season and the Oklahoma State Cowboys are still undefeated. The Pokes are 5-0 and travel to the capital of the Lone Star State to take on the No. 25 Texas Longhorns. The Cowboys had the week off while Texas was busy blowing a 21 point first-quarter lead to Oklahoma in the Red River Rivalry Game. Texas will be tasked with beating another ranked team from Oklahoma in order to remain in the top-25. Texas averages the most points-per-game in the Big 12 Conference and the Oklahoma State defense allows the least amount of points-per-game in the conference. The old unstoppable force meets the immovable object. Something has got to give.At the end of the day, I don't think the Oklahoma State offense is able to keep up with Texas, and the lack of offense in the second half is the primary reason why I think Texas prevails over OSU 31-24 on Saturday morning at 11 a.m. on FOX. Jacob Ingalls has OSU coming out of Austin with a 24-21 win, but the rest of the staff is picking Texas to bounce back from its loss to OU. Baylor is coming off a home win over West Virginia while BYU suffered a loss at home last week to Boise State. Gerry Bohanon passed for 336 yards and four touchdowns and Tyquan Thornton caught eight passes for 187 yards and two scores against West Virginia en route to a 45-20 win. The Baylor offense looked much better than it did against Oklahoma State Tyren Irby Jersey, albeit against a worse defense. I have had a hard time calibrating Baylor so far this season. Sometimes they look great and other times not so much. I think Baylor could absolutely win this game, but I am going to go with BYU by a field goal. I don't think Kansas' season needs much of an explanation at this point. With that being said, Texas Tech should be able to come into Lawrence and get whatever it wants against Kansas. Texas Tech needs a big win to boost confidence with a stretch of games against Kansas State, Oklahoma and Iowa State coming up. Needless to say, our entire staff has Texas Tech winning and covering the 16.5 point spread against a hapless Kansas squad. TCU No. 4 OklahomaWho will start for at quarterback for Oklahoma? Will it be Caleb Williams or Spencer Rattler? It's not often OU changes quarterbacks in the middle of the season, but it looks like Rattler will make the transition from Heisman candidate to bench warmer. Williams looked much better in a few quarters against Texas than Rattler has looked all year. As a result, Oklahoma erased a big deficit against Texas to win the Red River Rivalry. Williams had a pair of jaw-dropping passes, and Marvin Mims had a jaw-dropping catch on one of those passes, but the main thing Williams did that was a big improvement over Rattler was taking care of the ball. Rattler turned the ball over twice while the true freshman protected the ball the rest of the game. I think Williams gets the start on Saturday. TCU might be in some trouble of its own as star running back Zach Evans was listed as questionable to play as of Friday. Quarterback Max Duggan and receiver Quentin Johnson were also questionable to play as of Friday, and if all three miss the game, the OU defense will face a shell of what TCU's offense normally is. It could be our first look at Williams as a starter and a preview of what is to come for Oklahoma. We also might get a look at how good some of TCU's backup players are. If Duggan, Evans and Johnson do play, this game could be a high scoring shootout. Our entire staff has OU winning but TCU covering a 13.5 point spread. Kick off is set for 6:30 Saturday night on ABC. Iowa State Kansas State A pair of 3-2 squads will get together in Manhattan at 6:30 Saturday night. The game will be played on ESPN2 and both teams need a win. Iowa State is 1-1 in conference play with a big win over Kansas and a loss on the road to Baylor. Kansas State is 0-2 in conference play with a 31-20 loss to Oklahoma State and a 37-31 loss to Oklahoma. Iowa State has been particularly disappointing after being a Big 12 Championship Game contender in the preseason. With only one loss in conference play, Iowa State can still get there, but it has to be nearly perfect from here on out. This should be a close game in a great environment, but I am going with Iowa State in a close one. The rest of the staff has Iowa State winning except for Robert, who thinks Kansas State picks up its first win in conference play this season. Games Around the NationIt appears to be a slim slate of good games this weekend. As last weekend showed us, anything is possible in college football. A slow afternoon can turn into an exciting one real quick. No. 11 Kentucky takes on No. 1 Georgia in Athens. UCF takes on No. 3 Cincinnati at 11 on Saturday morning on ABC. Auburn plays at No. 17 Arkansas at 11 on CBS. Arkansas needs a win after two straight losses. No. 13 Ole Miss plays at Tennessee on SECN at 6:30. Tennessee is 4-2 and is suddenly scoring a lot of points, so this one could be a shootout. Virginia Tech plays Pittsburgh in what could be a great game at 2:30 on ESPN2. No. 18 Arizona State takes on Utah on the road at 9:00 on Saturday night on ESPN in the weekly Pac-12 after dark game. Let's take a look at some of our staff picks for games around the nation.
