TheUniversity of Albertais a public institution founded in 1908. Located in the province of Alberta in western Canada, 80 percent of university students study at the undergraduate level. The university is made up of five campuses, four of which are in Edmonton, including the main northern campus, which covers about 50 city blocks. The fifth floor of the university, the Augustana Campus, is located about an hour from Edmonton in the rural town of Camros. About 1,000 students study on the small Augustana campus, which focuses on liberal arts and sciences.

The university offers courses in various fields such as art, business, engineering, and medicine. English is the language of instruction, with French being the primary language, in addition to Saint-Jean on the university campus. More than 20 percent of the student body at the University of Alberta is international, and the cost of education for these students is high. The schools academic calendar is made up of autumn and winter terms and short, preferred spring and summer terms. There are university homes for undergraduate and graduate students on campuses in Edmonton and Augustana. The University of Alberta is affiliated with leading research institutes such as the Versatile National Institute for Nanotechnology. The University also has more than 400 research, teaching and exchange agreements with schools and other institutions around the world, such as the University of Munich in Germany and the University of Western Australia.
