The FanDuel Sportsbook at the Kansas Star Casino was formally launched on Thursday morning, September 8.
Jordy Nelson, a former Kansas State Wildcat and Super Bowl champion, placed the official first wager at the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
On September 1st, Kansas legalized sports betting after a preliminary launch. The four state-owned casinos' sportsbooks started taking bets both in-person and on mobile betting apps including Barstool Sports, BetMGM, Caesars, DraftKings, FanDuel, and PointsBet.
The NFL season officially begins on Thursday, coinciding with the formal debut.
The Kansas Star Casino said that its sportsbook is a significant upgrade that will draw customers during Thursday night's opening NFL game. According to Boyd Gaming Vice President of Communications David Strow, opening the sportsbook required a lot of work in a short amount of time.
We've been working pretty much triple shifts to get this site ready since we got the go-ahead from the legislature adopting legislation, Strow said.
There are 20 self-service kiosks, four betting windows, and a TV wall at the sportsbook at the Kansas Star Casino.
Boyd Gaming and FanDuel have previously collaborated, according to Strow, but Kansas is special.

South central Kansas, according to FanDuel Vice President of Retail Operations Jeff Lowich, "is a tremendously sport-hungry section of the county," particularly when it comes to college sports.
